WASHINGTON DC USA -- HEALTHCARE UPDATE NEWS SERVICE(TM) -- MARCH 31, 2004: The Foundation for eHealth Initiative announced today that it will hold the First Annual Connecting Communities for Better Health Learning Forum and Exhibition on June 24 - 25, 2004 at the Omni Hotel in Washington, D.C.  See www.ehealthinitiative.org or connectingcommunitiesprogram.org for more information about the event.

Join healthcare leaders in communities across the nation, who are interested in IT and electronic health information exchange for this first ever forum designed specifically for healthcare stakeholders that want to mobilize information across organizations to support and improve patient care. The Forum will feature presentations and discussions about health information exchange planning and implementation processes.  Hear vital tips from national leaders and on the ground experts who are implementing and evaluating various programs and the transition from funded programs to sustainable independence.

Sponsored by the Foundation for eHealth Initiative and co-sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the California HealthCare Foundation, the Center for Information Technology Leadership, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Markle Foundation’s Connecting for Health initiative, the Regenstrief Institute, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this practical, hands-on interactive meeting will be a perfect learning and networking opportunity for those planning or implementing health information exchange collaboration or electronic health records.  Participants will have many opportunities to interact with national experts, including prominent members of communities that have successfully implemented health information exchange, and other peers.

You will hear first-hand about best practices and lessons learned that will increase your chances of having a successful implementation. Participants will be encouraged to work with expert facilitators on problems that are specific to their organizations and communities. This program will be an ideal opportunity for community-based collaboration teams to attend as a group.
